Reopening of ECC - Communion

Reopening of ECC - What to Expect
Beginning May 28 and continuing through June 6, we’ve been posting more detailed information about some of the expected changes and procedures regarding the reopening of the ECC campus.  The full “Top Ten” list is available on our website and app, and it will also be listed in The Echoes which you should receive later this week, but for now, we’ll post something each day to help introduce some of those new changes.

7. Communion
Communion is an essential aspect of the weekly worship experience at Englewood Christian Church. We share in this celebratory occasion to remember the sacrifice of our Savior that provided our restoration with God.

In the past, we have passed communion trays and taken our individual wafers and cups from those trays.

Of course, with today’s concerns, we know this cannot happen this way anymore.  By prohibiting the amount of cross-contamination through so many hands is an essential way for us to maintain a safe worship environment.  In order to do so, there are a few necessary changes to make for the month of June.

We have prepacked communion kits that contain both a bread wafer and a cup of juice. These will be placed in the cup holders on the racks below the chair all throughout the room.  With our alternative seating arrangement (every other row), no one will be in the same seat twice. During your worship service and at the appropriate time, you can simply take your prepackaged cup from the rack, participate together with the body of Christ and return your empty cup to the cup holder when you are done. Volunteers will come by after the service to pick up all the trash and return any unused cups for future use.

Although a little different than the usual method of taking communion, this still allows us to all participate together in remembering the great sacrificial gift of love given by Christ and His glorious resurrection from the grave.

Thanks for understanding these necessary changes and partnering with us in creating a safe worship environment for all our members and guests. See you on Sunday!

If you have any other questions, please send them to info@eccjax.com and we will get back to you within the next business day.
